A Beautiful and Functional Solution
Ravenwood
When the owners of this mid-century home began renovating, they needed a landscape that balanced modern design with essential functionality. Years of stormwater damage had compromised the house’s foundation due to a driveway that funneled water directly toward the structure. At the same time, they envisioned a welcoming front yard that aligned with the home’s architectural character — complete with a fire pit, privacy, and clean lines. The design solution needed to address the site’s grading challenges while delivering on both aesthetic and structural goals.

“We wanted to work with someone who cared about their employees, our neighbors, and the environment — just a decent human being. He earned my trust so quickly that I stopped pinning ideas and just listened. He honored the bones of our house and created something that feels like an extension of our living space.”
By raising the driveway and regrading the surrounding space, the project eliminated drainage problems while introducing a recessed front patio that feels both intentional and inviting. Floating concrete steps, Corten steel planters, and custom wood seating bring a sculptural quality to the space, while every detail — from grading to construction — was carefully calibrated to preserve the project’s minimalist vision and structural integrity. The final result is a front yard that feels like a true extension of the home — visually striking, highly functional, and rooted in thoughtful design.
