Mid-Century Modern with Natural Wood
Front Yard Landscape Project in Athens
This front yard transformation in Athens embraces the clean lines and timeless style of mid-century modern design while addressing a critical stormwater management issue that had been causing damage to the home. By combining functional solutions with sleek aesthetics, we created a landscape that both protects and enhances the property.
The front of the house was retained with sleek painted stucco walls, which serve as both a structural and visual anchor for the design. A custom seating area featuring Jatoba wood benches and Corten steel planters creates a welcoming and stylish space for relaxation. Above the seating area, a Jatoba wood screen acts as an architectural feature, adding warmth to the design while providing privacy by screening the parking area.
To address the stormwater issue, we designed and installed a hidden drainage system beneath the space, ensuring long-term protection for the home. The landscape was finished with all-native plantings, which not only support local ecosystems but also enhance the mid-century modern aesthetic with their natural simplicity.
This project is a perfect example of how thoughtful modern garden design can solve practical challenges while celebrating architectural style. Stay tuned for the next phase as we bring the backyard to life!
