This backyard transformation in Northwest Atlanta turns a compact, sloped lot into a sleek and functional modern retreat. The homeowners sought a landscape that would extend their home’s contemporary architecture into the outdoors, with an emphasis on privacy, structure, and clean lines. No lawn, no fuss, just bold design with creative plantings. The design needed to respond to the property’s elevation changes while creating a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor living.
A vibrant blue pool anchors the backyard, precisely aligned with the home’s main living space to create visual and physical continuity. Concrete retaining walls double as planting beds, integrating the pool into the site’s natural topography. In the front yard, linear plantings and a concrete panel walkway echo the home’s modern aesthetic, softening hard edges with intentional greenery. Terraced levels accommodate the slope of the lot, while layered plantings and architectural screening elements provide a sense of privacy and enclosure.
More than just a one-time project, the relationship has continued over the years: Continuing to build on the modern and livable space, tailored to its urban surroundings. The home was even featured on the Modern Atlanta Tour — a fitting celebration of a garden designed to be both modern and memorable.
